Ashok Kumar paints Vasudev carrying Krishna in this Tikuli painting. Legend has it that when Kansa planned to kill the eighth child of Devaki, Vasudev decided to take Krishna to his cousin brother Nanda. He was aided by divine grace and escaped from the prison carrying little Krishna on his head in a basket through the mighty river Yamuna. As the night became more dark and intense rain happened to fall, nag Vasuki appeared to protect Vasudev and Krishna, and they trodden through the rough waters to Vrindavan where Vasudev handed Krishna to Nanda.
