Tanjore paintings are made on a muckboard which is handmade by our master artist.
Preparing the Muck board is a long and arduous process performed by Tanjore artists themselves. It is imperative to use the perfect thickness of the MDF board to make a durable Tanjore painting. It is then layered with manjer pat (a cotton cloth), followed by layers of French chalk powder mixture. This gives the Tanjore boards its smooth texture and a few other materials to make sure it is insect proof as well!
